The primary objective of the atlas is to provide a synthesis of environmental information relevant to the planning and implementation of year-round oil spill countermeasures in both coastal and offshore areas of the Beaufort Sea. The atlas is intended to be used as a link between the environmental characteristics of the region and the practical considerations of providing an effective response to marine oil spills, but not as an oil spill manual. ... This atlas was developed to meet the needs of industry, government, and local community groups for a document specifically related to offshore, year-round oil field development in the Beaufort Sea. ... The atlas is organized by map scale, moving from the summary to the regional to the operational scale.
